All students participate in a weekly classroom music program to deliver the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. This program is delivered across the school using the Curriculum into The Classroom (C2C) resource. Both Bronson Ryan (Teaching Principal) and Penny Burdell (Teacher Aide/Instrumental Music Instructor) deliver the school's music program.
Students in year 4 have an opportunity to participate in additional free afterschool non-performance based introduction to instrumental music.
Students in Years 4-6 have the opportunity to participate in our schools IDOL (Instrumental Drama and Other Learning) Music Program.
IDOL students have the ability to learn:
- Drums
- Guitar (Acoustic or Electric)
- Keyboard
- Singing
- Percussion
Students are provided with lessons outside of school hours along with optional lunch time rehearsals.
Students work towards two main public performances each year:
- The Chillagoe Country Music Festival (held over the Cairns Show Holiday long weekend in July).
- Presentation evening which is open to the community and visitors to attend at the Chillagoe Town Hall at the end of each year.
