Extra-curricular

At Chillagoe State School we have a very popular extra-curricular music program called Chillagoe IDOL (Instrumental Drama and Other Learning), where students perform in a band. Our grade four, five and six students have the opportunity to develop skills with instruments such as rhythm, lead and bass guitar, drums, keyboard and vocal. With a very well equipped music room, including three drum kits, Chillagoe State School students are often ‘breaking down the doors’ to practise. Children experience the rewards from using persistence, dedication, punctuality and teamwork while developing their musical skills, coordination and technique.

The Students select the performance content from a variety of genres which they then present to the public in a minimum of two displays a year. With the support from the school and community, this program has been successful for a decade.

What do the students say?

“Idol is a great place to learn music, have fun and build your confidence. In Idol you have to work extremely hard during lunchtime, before school and after school.  We have singing lessons every Tuesday so overall, Idol is a great place to get a good education and try something new.”

Hope

Year 4

“I think Idol is great fun! When I cant do something at first and I eventually get it, I feel proud and happy. We can have lots of fun playing music with our friends.”

Jack

Year 6

“I love music and our wonderful music teacher, Miss Penny. It’s heaps of fun playing and performing with our school band. I have gained confidence with getting up on stage and when doing speeches.”
